The Government of Assam has opened applications for its ongoing Assam Literary Award and Pension Scheme 2026-27. Writers who have made a mark in Assamese literature can receive a one-time award of Rs 50,000 or a monthly pension of Rs 8,000. The notice appeared in The Assam Tribune on 2 October 2026. Online applications close on 16 October 2026, so there are only two weeks to act.

What is the Assam Literary Award and Pension scheme 2026?

This is a continuing state scheme that honours reputed littérateurs, writers and authors of Assam for their outstanding contribution to literature. It recognises senior writers who have spent a lifetime building the state’s literary heritage, and gives them financial support in later life.

Award & Pension Amount

Eligibility criteria

• Age: the applicant must have completed 60 years of age as of 01.01.2026. In other words, you must have been born on or before 1 January 1966.
• Residence: the applicant must be a bona fide Senior Citizen of Assam.
• Literary standing: the applicant must have made a mark in the field of literature through outstanding contribution.
• Published work: two published books written by the applicant must be submitted along with the application form. This is mandatory.

If you already receive a pension

The rule on existing pensions decides whether you get the lump sum or the monthly amount.

• If you already receive any pension, you get the citation and the one-time award money of Rs 50,000, but not the additional Rs 8,000 pension. You cannot claim the monthly pension in future.
• If you receive no pension from the government or any government agency, you get the literary pension of Rs 8,000 per month.

Important Dates

The notice states that hard copies will not be accepted after the expiry of the last date. Note that there are two separate deadlines: one for filling the form online and a later one for the physical submission.

1. Visit the official portal https://dheliterarypension.assam.gov.in/
2. Fill in the prescribed application form between 02.10.2026 and 16.10.2026.
3. Take a printout of the completed form
4. Attach 2 copies of self-authored books that have been duly published.
5. Submit everything at the Office of the Director of Higher Education, Assam, Kahilipara, Guwahati-19, on or before 25.10.2026.
